Fotona 4D

Fotona 4D is a laser protocol using Nd:YAG and Er:YAG wavelengths. Here is how to ask about each phase in English.

How it works

Fotona 4D is a treatment protocol performed on laser systems from Fotona. It combines two laser wavelengths, Nd:YAG at 1064 nm and Er:YAG at 2940 nm, in several phases. Different phases are meant to act on different layers, from the surface to the deeper tissue. Gentle heating can encourage collagen changes, and one phase may lightly resurface the skin. Results vary by person, and the number of phases used differs by provider.

Good to know

  • It is a protocol, a set of steps, and not a single button.
  • Some phases feel warm; others feel like a light snapping.
  • Ask exactly which phases are in your plan.
  • Redness, warmth, and swelling can follow, and rarely pigment changes.

Asking about Fotona 4D in English

Some clinics use "Fotona" for a whole range of treatments. Ask the coordinator which phases of the 4D protocol are included in your visit and which handpieces are used. Ask for them to be listed in order.

Ask the doctor to explain, in simple words, what each phase is for. Questions such as "Which step will feel the strongest?" and "Do I need numbing cream?" help you prepare. Ask for the aftercare for each phase, since some leave only warmth while others leave redness.

Fotona 4D: common questions

What are Nd:YAG and Er:YAG?

They are laser types named after their crystals. They produce different wavelengths that act differently in the skin.

Does 4D mean four visits?

No. It refers to the protocol phases, not the number of visits.

Is it the same as Titan?

No. Titan uses infrared light, while Fotona 4D uses laser wavelengths.
